A visit to Andrew Stransky's self designed and built catamaran "Fantasia"

While the Stransky's were in Melbourne attending the World Sailing Cup so their daughter Mara could compete in the Laser dinghies I visited onboard their beautiful catamaran "Fantasia".  It's a lovely performance cruising catamaran and I've compiled some notes on the boat on the linked page.  Andrew is offering building plans for the "Seven Seas 50" and support through the construction process.  He also still has hull moulds available to speed the building process.

Surf to City yacht race, Boss Racing line honours and Fantasia first on handicap

Occasionally the weather gods get it right, and they were certainly smiling on the 92 competing boats inside and outside the unique and awesome 2014 Gill Surf to City Yacht Race.

On the cruise down over a few days there have been plenty of interesting stories coming in and you will hear little about them here, except to say that in the F22 Midnight Rain I was lucky enough to head down in, we only had to tack three times between Sandgate and Southport for a lovely seven hour sail. The usual rumble of nongs on jetskis, clowns getting nosebleed somewhere in the towers of Riviera stinkboats, and even the ubiquitous seaplane tried to land on our parade, but it was still all fun in the fresh easterly with a soupcon of south.

As expected, the awesome Volvo 70 Black Jack completed the ocean course and blasted across the finish line in an elapsed time under seven hours to take a few hours off the race record and even beat the (smaller) multihulls home. Thankfully their canting keel was up enough to not pick up any of the old crab pots and sunken sharpie keels around the fisheries beacon. They also claimed corrected time on IRC from Jessandra II.

Local hero Scott Murphy bought extra bags of lollies to get his young crew on the wings and win PHRF Div I - also from Jessandra II in his home built gold rocket. The Qld Cruising Yacht Club coup continued with the Commodore Phil Lazzarini easily winning div II ahead of Bad Habits.

In the ocean multihulls course, Andrew Stransky just edged out Boss Racing with his continually dominating Fantasia in the lumpy conditions which suited his waterline length nicely.

Airlie Beach Race week update, catamaran Fantasia returns from Asian sailing circuit to participate in the racing

The Fantasia family have travelled an exceptional 4,500 nautical miles just to compete in the 2013 Multihull Australian Championship.

The national championship is being held as part of this year’s Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week, being held from ninth to 16th August.

Since leaving Australia just over two years ago, skipper Andrew Stransky and his family, wife Carolyn and 14-year-old daughter Mara, have been racing their Seven Seas 50 catamaran, Fantasia, in Asian regattas and races.

'We’ve done Kings Cup, Raja Muda, Langkawai Regatta, Koh Samui Regatta, Top of the Gulf. There are about eight regattas and races you can do for multihulls. We did six of them in one year and about 10 or 11 the whole time we were in Asia which was about two years,' Stransky said.

With the chance to compete in what Stransky describes as the biggest multihull event in the southern hemisphere, it was an easy decision to head back to Australia. 'We raced up in Asia then decided it would be interesting to go back to Australia and then compare the two multihull racing scenes.'
