Corsair Pulse 600 trimaran update # 15

From the following entry by Corsair marine:

http://sail.corsairmarine.com/development-update-15-on-the-pulse-600

Following some great sailing last weekend on hull 3, it really feels like this Pulse is getting its rhythm!

We had decent wind conditions with 12-15 kts of breeze in semi-sheltered waters and the boat just felt fantastic. We were running without the bowsprit option (coming soon) and had some great screacher runs where the boat really got up and started to sing. As if the blood wasn’t pumping enough, skimming along at around 13-16 kts with the kite up, it was time to test the rudder balance. It felt so controlled that taking your hand off the tiller extension and letting the boat go was never an issue. So there we were, on a brand new boat, with all hands off. A great feeling!

Corsair Pulse 600, development update #14 new folding system and refinements in place

From the following press release by Corsair Marine:

http://sail.corsairmarine.com/development-update-14?mkt_tok=3RkMMJWWfF9wsRonuqnIZKXonjHpfsX56esrW6SzlMI%2F0ER3fOvrPUfGjI4DTcdgI%2BSLDwEYGJlv6SgFTLLCMbR4w7gJWxI%3D

After the successful test sail on the water testing in Nha Trang last month (update #13 http://sail.corsairmarine.com/sailing-review-on-the-pulse-600 ) we have been focussing on some modifications to really take the boat to the next level, and ready for the real product launch. Hull #2 is heading out to Brisbane, Australia next week where it is to be demo sailed and then exhibited at The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. We also have Hull #3 due to hit the water here in Vietnam as we have some local testing and demonstration sailing to be done!

So what have we achieved?

Folding System
The biggest modification is the folding system. We have moved away from the soft lower strut system which was simply too hard to use and in reality didn’t offer the rigidity we required for this product. We have now replaced this with a new anodised aluminium folding system. Similar in concept to our larger Corsair models however the new folding system uses a solid “V-shaped” lower strut on all four beams.

The complexity of the geometry involved is particularly high as the buoyancy of the float will dictate how much you can push the float through the water when you are folding. Not easy to setup however after testing the boat on the water, we struck off another milestone with this project by confirming that it is now an easy single person job to fold both on the water and on the hard. Another important feature to mention here is that the capshroud does not need adjustment when folding the boat. Likewise, the trampolines require no adjustment when folding as they self-tension when the folding system is opened out.

Sailing review of the Corsair Pulse 600 trimaran by Richard Ward CEO of Corsair Marine International

From the following update on the Corsair Marine website:

Nha Trang, Vietnam has been rightly claimed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and a wonderful sailing playground. Especially so in February, when there is almost a guarantee for no rain and reliable NE winds. It was the perfect location to hand over our latest launched Seawind 1160 Lite to an Australian customer and to test sail the incredibly exciting new model for Corsair, the Pulse 600.

Awaiting us as we arrived to Nha Trang, the just launched Pulse 600 - looking amazing on the water - was crying out to us to be sailed. In the late afternoon on the first day, we had perfect sunshine and the winds still at 16 to 20 knots and gusting higher occasionally. Zam (the Production Manager for Corsair Marine), Kerry (my partner), and myself took it out for a short test spin before our photo shoot the following day.

Corsair Pulse 600 trailerable trimaran update #6

From the following update on the Corsair Marine website:

http://sail.corsairmarine.com/development-update-6-on-the-pulse-600?utm_medium=compendium&utm_campaign=Development+Update+%236+on+the+Pulse+600&utm_content=admin&utm_source=facebook&fbnonce=932531903

Mast & Boom
The mast and boom will be aluminum. The cost differential to go to carbon on a boat this size vs. the performance gain does not add up and we want to keep that boat as affordable as possible whilst maintaining a high level of performance.

Rudders & Dagger Board
Both the rudders and dagger board are composite boards and both are retractable. In the up position, the dagger board will sit just under the boom and in the down position will be neatly out of the way and flush with the cockpit sole. This really clears up the area just behind the mast for crew in the cockpit.

Corsair Pulse 600 trimaran update, tooling coming together at Corsair Factory

From the latest update by Corsair:

http://sail.corsairmarine.com/update-3-on-pulse-600-development

With the hull, beam and float moulds all complete, the attention is now on the deck mould as the last major moulding to be completed before the first product can be produced. Here are some recent photos and insight into the current developments:

To make the deck mould, we first have to make the male plug. We do this using a series of CNC cut parts, which we slot into the hull shape before finishing with a filling material which is then sanded back by hand. We do this on a hull part so that we can be absolutely sure the hull and deck join aligns 100% every time as the parts themselves are made completely separately.

Corsair Marine, West Coast Multihulls Performance highlights so far of 2014

From the following press release on Corsairmarine.com

http://corsairmarine.com/news/west-coast-multihulls-performance-kicks-off-2014-with-a-bang/

Text by Mat Bryant – Multihull Specialist
Images by Dominik Huber

The beginning of 2014 has seen a long overdue of return of Corsair action on the water here in San Diego. West Coast Multihulls Performance was officially launched on Jan 1, 2014 with the initial target of re-developing and elevating a Corsair racing fleet in So-Cal. Below are some highlights of WCM Performance so far for 2014:

Lobbied for and were accepted to San Diego PHRF fleet as a Multihull Division with Bob Lang and myself as the board members. This is a significant step in that it is the first time in the US and possibly the world that Multihulls are accepted into the established race governing organization and can play in all the same regattas and clubs as monohulls.

Corsair Mini Clinic – with great success we tried a new formant for raising awareness of the Corsair Trimarans and to simply get people on the water. Over a weekend four 2hr sessions were filled and 12 new sailors got a taste of Corsair trimarans, this short but sweet approach proved to be popular and requested again. The highlight of this weekend was rolling over the top of an old Americas Cup boat full of new sailors as well. Can you guess who was having more fun?

Corsair Performance Clinic – This one day clinic is designed to help owners and current Corsair sailors get the most out of their boats. Various Corsair specific theories and practices are presented in a class setting in the AM and then taken onto the water and implemented in the PM. This turned out to be a great day with all four boats exceeding 15kts boat speed by end of day!

Cherry Pie Regatta 2014, an overview of the event by Larry Gellar

From the following article on corsairmarine.com

http://sail.corsairmarine.com/2014-cherry-pie-regatta-review
Larry Gellar gives us an overview of the 2014 Cherry Pie Regatta Sarasota Sailing Squadron:

Fun times and tough competition at the Cherry Pie Multihull Regatta. The second annual Cherry Pie multihull regatta was held this past weekend (February 7 – 9) at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron in Sarasota Florida. This years’ event featured sixteen trimarans participating in 11 races over 3 days, with dinners and entertainment in the evenings.

With shifty winds varying from 5 – 15 knots over the three days, our IRO Irene McNeil and her crew of volunteers worked tirelessly to move gates, pins and marks to ensure top competition. As a result, the fleet, which was broken down into three classes (Open, Corinthian and 24/27) saw fierce competition with tight starts, close crossings and crowded mark roundings on each leg.

After 11 races, the top three boats were separated by only 5 points, with Tom Reese taking first on FLIGHT SIMULATOR, Ryan & Todd Howe taking second on PANIC BUTTON, and Kathryn Garlick coming in third on EVOLUTION. The Corinthian Fleet was won by Brian Broad on THIRD TRI, and the 24/27 Fleet was won by Jim Bourgoin on FIRST TRI. Click here to view full results!

Corsair Marine press release, Cruze 970 trimaran sea trials a success

From the following Corsair Marine press release dated 20th May 2013

http://www.corsairmarine.com/article/press-release/corsair-cruze-970-sea-trials-success

The results outline a clear success. Notably, during the sea trials, the Cruze 970 Hull #1 was test sailed in near storm conditions and proven to be an even more stable and manoeuvrable platform than its predecessor.

Corsair Cruze 970 Sea Trials, a Success

Slightly over a week ago, Corsair, a division of the SeaWind group, With  launched on the water its newest model, the Cruze 970. This model improves on the older and proven C31 trimaranplatform with added comfort features, quality of finish while maintaining great sailing performance.

Since, data and pictures from the sea trials have been compiled, analysed and prepared for public release. The results outline a clear success. Notably, during the sea trials, the Cruze 970 Hull #1 was test sailed in near storm conditions and proven to be an even more stable and manoeuvrable platform than its predecessor. With winds gusting to 25knts the Cruze 970 was well balanced thanks to the extra float volume providing significantly more stability. With the Cruzing mast of 12m it allowed us to carry full main for longer before considering a reef. . In low wind conditions, the Cruze 970 also displayed enhanced performance.

Most significant evolution of the Cruze 970 exterior, compared to its predecessor, are the redesigned bow, increased buoyancy of the floats, harmonized deck lines and a new cockpit arrangement providing comfort normally associated to its bigger brother, the C37.

The biggest improvements are found in the interior design. First to be noticed is the raised deck, providing full standing headroom in the entire saloon and the forward head compartment which, in combination with the slightly increased length, creates an approximate 15% additional space. Second comes the much brighter living area thanks to the new interior liners and skilfully designed wood trims giving a luxurious, warm and clean feeling. Additionally, the galley area is larger with more surface, drawers and storage. Finally, the forward and aft bunks are wider and longer, aft bunk 2.2m, giving passengers a more generous sleep.

The Corsair Cruze 970 is the 3rd new and improved model being released by the company in just above 2 years, demonstrating clear strength, vision and confidence in the future.
