In the 1,750-mile Governor's Cup race, which got underway on the 22nd December, Kevin Webb’s Farrier F9AX trimaran, co-skippered by Sarel van der Merwe, from Royal Cape Yacht Club, Cape Town, is on her final descent towards the island of St Helena for the finish.

Webb and team continue to make the most of the stunning Atlantic conditions and are currently blasting along on a downwind sleigh ride in up to 20kts of wind, in an attempt to gain time over Robert Newman’s Du Toit catamaran – Compromise – which is currently leading the Rally Multihull fleet on handicap.

Governor's Cup 2012, Tough competition in Multihull class

As the 18-strong Governor’s Cup fleet make its final approach to St Helena on this 1,750-mile race from Simon’s Town, South Africa, competition is really beginning to intensify.

The overall line honours trophy is still very much up for grabs with Banjo – Kevin Webb’s Farrier F9AX trimaran – now threatened by Sandpiper 2 – Abri Erasmus/Paul Tanner’s Simonis Voogd 42ft catamaran. Until two days ago Banjo had established a solid lead, but the Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club team on Sandpiper 2, has sailed well over the last couple of days and is now set to launch a challenge.

The current leader of the Multihull class, on handicap, is Robert Newman’s Du Toit catamaran – Compromise.

A new photo of the progress on the F22 trimaran deck mold has been published.  The latest image shows the lamination of the deck mold complete with core installed in preperation for the final stiffening framing to be fitted prior to use.

Two Farrier F32 SRX trimarans nearing completion in New Zealand

Two of the new Farrier F32 SRX trimarans are nearing completion at Beca Composites in Tauranga, New Zealand.  These new folding trimarans are focussed on being competitive while racing but also offer some interior space for basic cruising or overnighting.  They also offer good ability for transport by trailer behind a suitable vehicle.
