Building & Sailing Jim Michalak’s Trilars Trimaran

Tom Raidna is an amateur boatbuilder, sailor and most importantly … a small trimaran enthusiast :-) He contact me the other day to show me an economical project he’d recently completed — a small tri model designed by Jim Michalak called “Trilars.”

This kind of project represents exactly the kind of home-grown fun I love reading about — a sailing guy making something with wood and then going out on the water to test it all out!

Small Trimarans blog entry on restoration of Cross 26 trimaran

From the following article on the excellent smalltrimarans.com blog.

http://smalltrimarans.com/blog/?p=9605

Sailor Brandon Walters is presently restoring a Cross 26 trimaran in California. He sent the following pics, along with some more photos of the boat from 1885 (he got these pics from the fellow who owned the boat at that time).
The boat’s name is POCO LOCO. Brandon said he is currently trying to figure out how to properly rig the new aluminum mast that he bought for it. So if anyone can offer him a helpful tip or two when it comes to stay lengths (or that sort of thing) then please post comments below.
Brandon plans on sharing more pics of the boat after he gets it back into the water so we can see it newly refinished. Thanks for sharing this with us my friend!

Trimaran 'Spirit' Fiji to Brisbane (Australia) trip

Jason on his trimaran 'Spirit' (a modified Formula 40 trimaran) has sailed the boat from Fiji to Brisbane and made up a video of the trip.  It looks like champagne sailing with excellent weather conditions for the delivery.  We also get to have a look around Spirit's tight interior and how it has been fitted out to deal with the necessities of cruising while still keeping everything light.

You can read more about Jason's adventures with 'Spirit' on the trimaran sailing blog here
