Team Phaedo claim round the Isle of Wight record

The Phaedo team on the MOD70 trimaran Phaedo3 have claimed the outright world record for the Round the Island course at the Isle of Wight.  The new time they have set is 2 hours 4 minutes and 14 seconds (still to be ratified by the World Speed Sailing Record Council).  The crew

The previous world record was held by Michel Desjoyeaux and set in a previous edition of the Artemis Challenge at 2 hours, 21 minutes and 25 seconds.

Yvan Bourgnon has been involved in some incredible multihull adventures over the years including racing solo the ORMA60 trimaran Brossard and sailing a modified Nacra beach cat around cape horn.  He has just uploaded some photos of his current catamaran project which is under construction.

• Departure: 5 October 2013 of Sables D'olonne for an adventure of 11 months with stopovers and 50,000 kms to the counter!

 

• No assistance, no gps (navigation to the sextant): return to simple values of navigation

 

• Selected crew: Vincent Beauvarlet, former champion of the young world of windsurfing

Multi50 update, Team Lalou launch their new Multi50 trimaran

Team Lalou have successfully launched their new Multi50 trimaran.  Lots of good ideas on board and I like the shelters around the external helms should make them a good place to be in rough weather.  Looking forward to seeing this boat compete in the year ahead.  Congratulations to the team and thanks for taking us along on the ride watching the boat under construction.
