The construction of Rapido 60 trimaran hull #2 is well underway. The shell has come together quickly thanks to the excellent tooling that is now in place at the factory.
Trimaran project is intended to showcase multihull news with a focus on racing, build projects, launchings, interesting ideas past and present and also updates on my own trimaran projects. Lots of content and updates to come so keep checking back.

Rapido trimarans, new website with details of Rapido 60 trimaran which is designed by Morelli and Melvin
From the following Concept and Design section of the Rapido Trimarans website:
http://www.rapidotrimarans.com/the-concept.html
CONCEPT and DESIGN
A yacht designed and built by real sailors for real sailors…..
…and meets CE A and ISAF Category 0 offshore for multihulls ( for trans-oceanic races and capable of withstanding heavy storms…).
Take the highly experienced sailors that have built more production trimarans than anyone else in the world and team them up with the best multihull design group in the world---the result is an innovative ocean cruising yacht, the first of its kind.
Safe. Seaworthy. Spacious. Stable. Fast. and Strong!
The Rapido 60, conceived by Paul Koch and Richard Eyre, and designed by Morrelli & Melvin will set the benchmark for genuine performance ocean cruising yachts.
We are not talking about a stripped out racing yacht pretending to be a cruiser or a super expensive cruiser that makes performance claims that cannot possibly be lived up to due to weight.
Round the world and distance records are held by trimarans for good reasons. They are easier and safer to handle even in the storms of the Southern Ocean. They are more comfortable and faster on all points of sail. They are easier on the crew because the motion of a trimaran in the sea is superior to both monohulls and catamarans.
Monohulls typically sail at least 20 degrees of heel and roll at anchor, which makes living aboard uncomfortable and even exhausting. Catamarans are extremely comfortable when moored and at the boat show and many inexperienced sailors are seduced by this false sense of comfort.

America's Cup update, Pete Melvin of Morelli and Melvin on his involvement in the Emirates Team New Zealand AC72 catamaran program
From the following article in the New Zealand Herald by Paul Lewis
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11113513
If Team New Zealand manage to bring the America's Cup back to Auckland, one of the little-known heroes will be an American and a former Oracle team member.
It's not overstating matters to suggest that designer Pete Melvin is the father of the AC72s, the blisteringly fast catamarans of the 34th America's Cup.
Even more surprisingly, Melvin - a sailing coach for Oracle racing before becoming a multi-hull design guru - is the man who played a major role in designing the wingsail for the giant 90ft trimaran, known as BOR 90; the yacht which won the Cup for Oracle in 2010 in a deed of gift showdown against Alinghi's giant catamaran.

Morelli & Melvin new 45' composite racing catamaran design to be built by McConaghy Boats.
CALIFORNIA 45: New foiling catamaran
read more here
From the following press release
Morrelli & Melvin, have announced that they will collaborate with McConaghy Boats to produce an exciting new 45ft racing catamaran with hydrofoils.
After helping write the AC72 class Rule, M&M is working with the best designers and sailors in the world as part of the Emirates Team New Zealand challenge. Drawing on their experience with foiling Americas Cup 72 ft catamarans, Morrelli and Melvin have conceived the California 45 with the objective of making the exhilaration of Americas cup sailing available to the club sailor.
The California 45 will foil in relative comfort, with high coamings, and solid aft deck, the effect of high powered water spray on the skipper and crew will be minimised. Electric winches and an ergonomic deck layout will make high speed, high adrenalin sailing a breeze. Transportable by containers will make it possible to ship to favourite regattas easily.
